The world of designers is a world in which you must fight to make your point and ideas clear, and where you have to differentiate yourself from others each and every single day. It’s not a secret that originality is THE rule to which every designer or fashion creator has to live by if he wants to survive this tough world. For models it’s no different. They constantly search for new, fresh faces full of potential, but in order to succeed you need a lot more than just a pretty face. If you are not one of the most famous models in the modeling industry, your career could be over from one day to another. One day you’re in, the next day you’re out; like Heidi Klum would say.

Every day, new men and women step into the business and hope to become a big name in this world of fame and beauty. The most models are scouted in the most random places such as shops, streets, restaurants, McDonalds…or in Lottie Moss’ case: when you are a bridesmaid at your big sister’s wedding.
The name ‘Moss’ probably sounds very familiar to you, thinking of the famous British model Kate Moss. So…are they somehow related to eachother? That's right. Lottie Moss, or rather Charlotte Moss, is Kate Moss's half-sister. The thirteen year old girl was scouted at Kate’s wedding by ‘Storm Model Management’.

Last month, Lottie had her very first test-shoot with Vogue photographer Andrea Carted-Bowman, which brought even better results than the management had hoped for. She is not professional about posing yet, but she does have that expressiveness we all like in some models. Although it’s still too early to make definitive plans for Lottie, it already seems that she could have an even more successful career than Kate. From an interview with her father, we see that Lottie loved to spent a full day as a real professional model and that she is a very gifted girl who could achieve a lot once the plans are officially made.

"Lottie looks beautiful and fresh – a very English rose look. Generally you need the height. Kate is an exception to the rule because models need to be 5ft9in to 5ft 11in. I think Lottie would make a lovely young model.”
- Carol White (founder of Premier Models, launched Naomi Campbell's career.)

"She’s even got a Cindy Crawford-style mole on her chin. She’s the full package. If she plays her cards right, she could eclipse Kate.”
- Karen Kay (fashion expert)

Lottie sure has a promising future ahead of her!

"So who am I? I'm just the guy with the coolest job in the world."
-James Lillis.

Black Milk Clothing is an online fashion label that manufactures awesome printed leggings, swimsuits, tops and skirts, all the way back in their little design studio in Brisbane, Australia. In just a few years, the label got extremely popular and earned recognition all over the world. It’s original, alternative, colorful and unique. The label also cooperates with a big name in the shoe-fashion, Jeffrey Campbell, and designed some amazing pairs of shoes.

But where did the idea of creating this kind of clothes come from? Who’s the mastermind behind all of this? There’s only one answer to that: James Lillis.

All started with a secondhand sewing machine and a boy who had only 6 bucks left in his pocket. One day, Lillis wanted to make himself a shirt, and with no money left he walked into a fabric shop and bought himself the cheapest fabric he could find; nylon lining. As Lillis put it himself: “It was these fateful decisions that lead me down the path to Black Milk. Because nylon lining doesn't look particularly attractive, it meant I had to make it fitted. I made myself a tight shirt. It was tragic. The stitching was wrong, the pieces were cut weird, and the neck was a nothing more than a hole. And I loved it. I wore it constantly.”

From there on, Lillis started to focus on doing odd small jobs to earn money, but at the same time he was already planning and plotting in the back of his mind. Each time when he earned some, he went to a store and bought some new fabrics to try out new things. He made a pair of leggings out of tribal African printed fabrics and tried it out on a friend of his friend. He cut and sewed them again and again until they fit, and in the end, the girl was so satisfied that she asked Lillis if she could buy them. This was a major change in Lillis’ plans and from then on, he knew what he wanted to do. He wanted to design more of these clothes, because if there was one girl who was prepared to buy one pair of his leggings, there were probably even more girls who wanted to do the same.

As Lillis only had his sewing machine (which he couldn’t even use properly yet), he had no other option than to figure out how to create something in the best possible way. He attended sewing lessons and slowly his collection of self-made clothes was becoming bigger and bigger. The next step was something more difficult: go out and sell the stuff! Most of the stores turned him down, and when he finally found one who wanted to give him the chance to try and sell his stuff, this turned out into a disaster. So Lillis decided to go to markets and try to sell his creations there, but also there he and his creations weren’t very loved.

But then the unexpected happened. More and more people found Lillis’ creation through his blog, and it very soon got to the point where Lillis’ clothes were selling rather well at his little online shop. This is when he decided that Black Milk clothing would be exclusively an online fashion label, and it seems he made the right decision. His clothes are selling very well and Black Milk clothing became a lot bigger than he expected.

By now Lillis has an entire team which helps him to continue to make his dream come true, and an entire community of devoted Black Milk fans.

If you are a little aware of everything that has recently been happening in the fashion world, then you must surely know who the creative director of Dior is. Exactly, Raf Simons. I am honored and proud that I can tell you that yesterday afternoon, Simons had his debut show for Christian Dior in Paris. If there’s ever been a show the fashion world has waited with absolute bated breath to see, it’s this one: Raf Simons’ debut for Christian Dior. The show could be followed online at Dior.com.

Hej hej,

I bet you guys know those shirts with the shapes of a skull cut out on the back, right? They seem to be pretty popular lately. They’re easy to make yourself as long as you’re patient and perfectionistic. So that’s what I did today, making my own shirt, ahah. It took me moreless 3 hours and I’m satisfied with the result, I expected worse!;p I’ll tell you how I did it.

Some days ago I bought a shirt at H&M, it was only 9 euro and I bought it a couple sizes too big because I like it more loose for this type of shirts. But that’s all about personal taste, ofcourse. First of all, I drew each and every single part of the skull out on paper to see if the size matched with the shirt. I started with the eyes because they’re the biggest part of the skull, then with the nose and then the teeth. After this, I cut it all out and pinned every single piece of paper onto the shirt (even the smallest teeth!) to be sure everything was in the right place and to be sure there was enough space between each part. (make sure your shirt is made out of a decent fabric so it won’t get ripped apart once you start cutting!)

It isn’t a secret that the fashion world is font of extreme models which can keep fascinating the media and spectators. There are more androgynous models, and even tattoos and piercings are becoming more common. As example, Alice Dellal, who is known for her rough appearance and image, and half shaved hair, is a huge fashion icon nowadays. With this, the fashion world is breaking its own rules and becomes more and more fun and interesting.

This year, H&M is launching its fifth Fashion Against aids collection to spread the safe sex message that each new generation needs to hear about. H&M raises funds and wants to create awareness about HIV and AIDS among young people. 25% of the purchase price of all Fashion Against Aids items goes towards AIDS prevention. The collection is available from the 26th of April 2012 in around 300 H&M Divided departments and online as well. This year’s collection brings together ethnic influences from different continents.

The ad for the collection is cool and romantic. It’s directed by Dan Martensen and features a cast of model couples which express their love with a kiss.

Steven Klein is a photographer who likes to shock his audience. His work has always teetered on the edge of darkness, macabre but impressive. Klein shot high-profile advertising campaigns for various clients including Calvin Klein, D&G, Alexander McQueen and Nike and is a regular contributor to magazines including American and Paris Vogue, i-D, Numéro, W and Arena.
For the latest issue of ‘Interview, Klein created a violent non-existing world in which Crystal Renn stars as an abused patient, and Karolina Kurkova as her own creepy nurse. There’s an eerie cinematic feel and use of extreme bondage and dark nature. Ludivine Poiblanc took care of the styling which was, as usual, perfection.

Crystal Renn is one of the big names in the fashion industry. She recently appeared in the F/W 2010 Jean Paul Gautier campaign and has appeared in campaigns for H&M, Chanel, Dolce & Gabbana, Saks Fifth Avenue, Jean Paul Gautier, Jimmy Choo, Barneys, Dsquared, and Nordstrom. Karolina Kurkova was awarded for ‘Best Model of the Year and the BH1/Vogue Fashion Awards’ by Vogue in 2002, and signed contracts with Ralph Lauren, Oscar de la Renta, Chanel and Balenciaga. By now, she already appeared for over 60 times on the cover of a magazine.

So as you see, both of the models which you see in this shoot, are professionals and are used to the most glamorous kinds of shootings, but even this didn’t make them back down for Klein’s sinister work.

This evening the opening of Jessica Yatrofsky’s “I heart boy” takes place in A&Gallery in Ghent. She’ll put the naked masculine body in the spotlights to show that the balance in our society leans too heavily to the female nudity, and according to her, our generation MUST fight against this inequality.

She’s an American artist who first gained notoriety for her work on I Heart Boy, a photo blog dedicated to picturing young men in sweetly provocative ways, which was later adapted into a photography monograph.
Jessica Yatrosky:  “My work has the underlying desire to make male nudity more visible in our cultural landscape. Plus: dicks are more easy on the eyes, right?! Our society is always eager to construct and depict the sexuality of women, but actively avoids the sexuality of men, except as voyeurs. Our generation should be challenging these inequalities.”

New York Press spoke of her work as “Sensual and soft, a weirdly incongruous beauty that isn’t masculine in the traditional sense, but unquestionably male.”

Hey you guys!
Am I the only one who's really LONGING for the summer? I'm tired of the cold Belgian weather which changes every day.. One day it's snowing, the other day it's raining and the next day there's sun. It's not really healthy, trust me. Everybody is sick and having a bad mood :(
Today I was surfing the internet and checking out some sites where I could buy some nice summer outfits, and that's when I found http://nelly.com/. There's Jeffrey Campbell, Jofama, 2nd Day,Stylein, By Malene Birger...and a lot more. On top of that they also sell the best make-up brands like Max Factor, Smashit, Ardell and Peter Thomas Roth. It's perfect for each style and budget.
What do you think?

Here are some outfits which I'd LOVE to have!

Hey to every stranger or devoted reader who’s visiting our blog.

Lately my mind’s been set on photography. I’m studying it a while now, and school’s finally booking some result, haha. Last week I was running around like a madman, camera in hand and shooting pics nearly every day. I’m pretty sick right now (I guess that’s what you get when you’re spending hours in a field when there’s a lot of wind -.-) but after all, I’m really satisfied about the results so it was definitely worth it. I’m not saying my pics are amazing, or perfect or whatever, I’m a student and I’m still learning. But I can honestly say that I’m proud. The theme of my pictures is ‘Freaks’ with influences of Diane Arbus and Joel Witkin’s pieces of art. Both of them are a big inspiration for me and I absolutely adore their work, though it’s very different from mine.

Hey (;

Without a doubt, everyone of us has heard about the most popular boys band of our time; One Direction, who scored a monster hit with 'What makes you beautiful'. The band, consisting of Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan, Liam Payne, Zayn Malik and Harry Styles finished third in the contest X-Factor 2010 and signed a contract with Syco after.

A few weeks ago, the band visited the Netherlands after a contest organised for the countries Italy, Sweden, the Netherlands and Germany, called 'Bring1DToMe'. It took place in Hotel Arena in Amsterdam with a Q&A and signing session for their fans, and I have to say it was a rather hilarious experience for me. My friend Kim, a big fan of Louis Tomlinson, got us some tickets to join hundreds of screaming teenage fans in anticipation for their beloved band ;p

Helloooo!

I know it's been a while since I've written something for this amazing blog, but like Beny mentioned before; I think all of us were pretty busy with our personal lives! School started and there were a lot of things to take care of :):) BUT I've a lot to tell you guys, so just skip the bullshit and apologies, and get straight to the point!

Hey leute,
maybe some of you read one of my former posts 'Boys will be boys, but look like girls', which was all about the gorgeous 'Andrej Pejic'. Today I was surfing on the web, watching some fashion blogs and magazine covers until I crashed into one of the most eye-catching shoots I've ever seen. Again the lovely Andrej Pejic caught my attention, but this time it wasn't him who left quite some impression on me. Rick Genest (better known as Zombie boy) was shining with some great poses next to our beautiful Andrej.

Everyone who loves the fashion of nowadays, sure likes the 'old' stuff as well.

"My art is my freedom." - Eric Saade

Everyone has their own ways of expressing themselves. What can't be told by voice can be shown by paper, by pen, by music... In art we have no rules and boundaries, in art we aren't forced to think logically or to doubt whether something is wrong or right. You have freedom (maybe this is one of the only things in which you are REALLY free). For me, drawing is a foothold. An outlet for emotions and fears, adoration and beauty, and probably a lot of other things in my head which aren't able to come out in any other way ;)

 Hey dearies,

as everyone of us knows, a few days ago, the world premiere of "Harry Potter and the deadly hallows part 2" took place at the Trafalgar Square in London! Thousands of people from all over the world came together to say their final goodbye to Harry Potter, and I was one of the lucky ones who could get a spot at the red carpet! Already days before people were sleeping outside, waiting for July 7th, and as expected, those nights were typical London weather! Rain was pouring from the sky but that didn’t stop the fans.

 Hola!

The 28th of May I visted the Tattooconvention in Dortmund Germany with one of my best friends Kim (http://twitter.com/#!/KimiTomiDoll), and my mum. Kim and I seem to have a little ‘obsession’ with the guys from the television show ‘Miami Ink’, and because they were present as ‘special guests’ we definitely HAD to be there! We left Belgium in the afternoon and drove more than 3 hours to get there! Once there, we met with my friend Jana and went inside. The first thing to do: finding the Miami Ink crew! We searched them on the map of the convention and discovered in the middle ‘Ruthless and Toothless’ and remembered this is the brand Yoji Harada and Darren Brass launched. So, as expected, we found the guys there and we got to take a picture with Yoji Harada :D.

Last year I graduated and I got my degree in ‘Fashion and Creation’. This subject in school gives young people who have a passion for fashion and art, the chance to develop and use their creativity as comprehensive as possible. The education consists of deepening yourself into art, artists, fashion and fashion designers. You get the chance to put all your fashionable ideas on paper, and professionals show you how to process your own designs into real, (sometimes) wearable creations! Each year, this school organizes a fashion show to show the great talent of its students to the outside world. They introduce their own creations and this in a very professional way. Tomorrow evening (May 27) is the ninth edition, and I will definitely be there to have a peek! I think our students are already very nervous right now; this will be THE moment they’ve all been working for during the past school year. (I remember I was nervous the night before the show, haha.) I'm already curious, and I certainly will let you guys know how everything went! :D

Holaaa!

Today no Famous people, known artists or any of that! I want to dedicate this post to a very interesting and special person: Veronika Bezdenejnykh (20, Aalst, Belgium). She is a young artist with Russian / Kazakh roots, and besides the fact that she’s incredible creative and fascinating, I have the honor to call her one of my best friends.  Why I write this for her? Because I CAN ;) And because I love her more than anything, so this is a good way to let her know! She is one of those people who will always be there for you, no matter what. She would never bias or act in a disrespectful way. (Except maybe when she has one of her famous bad moods in the morning.) She is someone with a clear view on the world but at the same time she is withdrawn in her bubble of art and originality. She doesn’t have a mind like others and that is exactly what makes her so unique. As a friend of Veronika, I have the right to honestly say that she's crazy, quite eccentric and occasionally a bit strange (no offense) but she knows how to turn all of this into charming traits. She’s blessed with the artistic gift and knows exactly how to use it. She is original, extraordinary and she also manages to keep everything interesting. Painting and drawing is her passion, just like Dr. House and Johnny Depp who seem to be her muses. ;) I also believe her work deserves to be known because she’s extremely talented and it would be a shame for not sharing it with the rest of the world! ;)

I’ve always had a passion for writing and romance, or let’s put it this way: I adore the emotional manipulation a story can cause. It’s remarkable how the exact combination of words can suck you right into the scene, almost like you’re living it yourself. I’ve the biggest respect for writers who can make you lose your mind with a simple, short sentence in the middle of a huge piece of text. For example, I absolutely adore this sentence:  “It was so silent, it was like listening to continuous, unbroken screaming.” When you read, you have to read more than just the words which you see. You have to read with your eyes closed sometimes or read between the lines, try to let your feelings talk to discover the true meaning of a sentence or even a word. How can you know if the writer means ‘blue’ when he writes ‘blue’, and not ‘black’ or ‘violet’? That’s the nicest part of your imagination. You create your own concept because you FEEL in a certain way, and there’s no one there to tell you “no you shouldn’t see it like that.” You’re your own boss; you’ve your own mind. Own opinions. When you read something, you’ve always parts which immediately catch your attention and give you a certain feeling, or touch you, sometimes it can be pure melancholy. I think this is the best way to express yourself without being judged. Maybe you can provoke with words, but after all no one can forbid you to write them.
